7 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Buying a Wedding Dress

We’ve discussed everything from how to find your perfect wedding dress to whom to bring to your wedding dress fitting. We've also discussed which wedding dress silhouette best suits your style and even how to save money on your wedding gown.

However, do you know what the one thing we haven’t discussed is? Well, we'll tell you. Just before you swipe that card or write that cheque or even whip out your wallet, there are some quintessential elements you should consider before making that final purchase.

So, without further ado, here are seven questions every girl should consider when buying a wedding dress.

1. Is this within my budget?

Your budget is one of the most important things to consider when buying a dress. Be sure to clarify whether the final price is before or after taxes. If the wedding gown is within your price range, then buy away. If not, think twice before you say yes to the dress.

2. If this is over my budget, can I afford the surplus charge?

Sometimes the perfect wedding dress comes along that you can't pass up. With that said, ensure that you can handle the cost before making that final decision. It will give you peace of mind and save you from any last minute buyer's remorse.

3. Do I feel comfortable standing, walking, sitting and dancing in this dress?

There's nothing worse than being uncomfortable on your big day. That's why comfort is paramount. Some form-fitting wedding dresses will restrict movement so be sure to move around during your fitting. Think of it as a test drive before you walk down the aisle.

4. Is this dress lightweight enough to wear for the entire ceremony?

Heavy fabric can weigh you down, and you'll be using a lot of your strength to keep yourself up. Buy fabric that's airy and lightweight and will allow your skin to breathe easily no matter how the wedding dress fits your body. Trust us, and you'll be thankful for those hot summer days.

5. Is the wedding dress warm enough for the season?

If your wedding falls during winter, consider buying a dress that allows you to retain body heat. Sure, you'll be indoors for most of the ceremony and reception, but if you're adventurous enough to take pictures in the snow, you'll want a wedding dress that will prevent you from freezing into an icicle.

6. Do I like this wedding dress or am I just copying someone else's wedding dress style?

We can't stress enough the importance of the following statement: Follow your heart. Too often do brides copy the style of their favourite celebrity, only to be disappointed that it's not their style or fit. It is YOUR day. Wear what makes you sparkle and shine.

7. Is the length appropriate for the wedding location?

Do you plan to tap into your inner Disney princess, and take pictures in a grassy woodland area? Then reflect on the length of your wedding dress and its contact with the ground. Any wedding dress expert can clean it, but do you want to spend the rest of your reception in a dirty dress?
